Conceived as siblings, the two houses are to be constructed in a densely wooded site, close to the western shore of Lake Washington. The building volumes are characterised by a layered facades utilising a timber rainscreen of hardwood battens reclaimed from the site clearing. Large format structural glazed window openings incorporating high performance glass provide views of the surrounding forest, with ventilation provided by a series of shutters mounted flush with the building skin. Thermal performance of the buildings is further enhanced via the incorporation of highly insulated grass roofs, which also incorporate accessible roof terraces to both houses Refined in form and footprint, the buildings will utilise panellised SIPS construction ( structural insulated panel system) for speed of production and installation on site.
