Gentlemans Halt

Hawkesbury River, NSW
 2002

In January 2002, Collins and Turner were appointed architects for the restoration of a 200 year old heritage property at Gentlemans Halt, on the Hawkesbury River on the New South Wales Central Coast.
Situated in the midst of the Marra Marra National Park, the house is accessible only by water and has no mains electrical or water supplies.
The ongoing refurbishment includes the extensive reconstruction of the original sandstone walls, the replacement of the roof and installation of a new contemporary kitchen and bathroom.
A range of energy conservation measurements includes rainwater collection in a series of collection tanks below the building; a waste water recycling system utilising sand filtration trenches; the installation of new photovoltaic power generation and solar hot water heating system; and the upgrading of roof installation and the thermal performance of the building generally.
