UTS Law Faulty Feasibility Study
Sydney CBD
In 2003 Collins and Turner were engaged by San Kei Investments to prepare a feasibility study for a mixed use building to house the UTS Law Faculty on their site in Haymarket, Sydney.
Designed in collaboration with Neustein Rosenberg Partnership and Arup structural and environmental engineers, the new building provides 12,000 sqm of flexible accommodation in a 13 storey atrium building. The column free floor-plates are designed to be suitable for use by either a university faculty or future offices.
At the Lower Levels, a podium structure incorporates retail, a students union bar, library and a lecture theatre.
Energy efficiency was a prime consideration in the conceptual planning of the building, which was developed a a best practice mixed mode building.
The external form of the building is given expression by the punctuation of a series of sky-gardens, which connect the outside world of the atrium, bringing the daylight and natural ventilation into the centre of the building. The facades are a curtain wall of exposed aggregate concrete and performance glazing.
