The Happy Lion (a.k.a Lord Mori Gallery)

In 2002, Collins and Turner were engaged to prepare designs for the refurbishment of 963 Chung King Road, in the Chinatown district of Los Angeles, into a new gallery representing contemporary Australian and Californian artists.
The project was executed on a modest budget and retained the existing shopfront to the pedestrian thoroughfare of Chung King Road, a street which has since become a major new gallery precinct in Los Angeles with the opening of a series of similarly scaled galleries promoting contemporary art in the shells of vacated formerly Chinese owned businesses.
The new gallery space was designed in consultation with Sydney Artist Susan Norrie, and created by removing existing wall linings, suspended ceilings and floor finishes, and installing new drywall, polishing and sealing existing concrete slab.
