Horbury Terrace, Sydney, NSW
Feasibility Study
Collins and Turner were engaged by Hunter Hall Pty Ltd to prepare a feasibility study for the adaptive reuse of the Horbury Terrace, a heritage listed Georgian townhouse and currently the last remaining private dwelling house on Macquarie Street. Situated across the road from the State Library and the Botanic Gardens, the property was renovated extensively in the 1970′s as the Sydney Headquarters of Angus and Coote Jewellers.
The project brief called for the conversion of the building into premium office accommodation, suitable for the proposed use as a regional headquarters for an ethical investment fund management company.
Our Proposal envisages the demolition of the mezzanines, and the creation of a new light-court, designed to capture and refract northlight into the depths of the building through a translucent skylight.
Internal offices, previously denied access to daylight will now face each other across the lightwell. The benefits of daylighting are further enhanced by the treatment of internal wall surfaces with refractive and reflective pattern treatments applied to the new glazed atrium walls.
